We are looking for teaching assistants (TAs) for the Bachelor College course Principles of Design and Programming (4CA10) that will be given at the department Mechanical Engineering in quarter 2 Timeslot C of the academic year 2026-2027.  

 

In this course, first year students Mechanical Engineering will learn the basic principles of design and programming. These two topics will run in parallel, where the design part will focus on the design of physical systems whereas the programming part will discuss the fundamentals of coding and design of software. 

As a tutor, you will supervise approximately 30-35 students during the two weekly guided self-study sessions. In these sessions, students work in couples on several design and programming exercises. In addition, you are asked to assess their self-study assignments and provide feedback. Your help is also required during the assessment of the final programming project. 

 

All this requires tutor skills and insight in the fields of design and programming. To prepare for the role of teaching assistant, you will attend the training that will take place in the week of October 19, 2026 (the exam preparation week of the first quartile). 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor students Mechanical Engineering with ≥ 120 credits (or > 60 and a grade > 8 for 4CA10 in 2025-2026) or Master students Mechanical Engineering 
  • Skills in design principles and programming. 
  • Proficiency in the programming language Python and Matlab
  • English proficiency 

 

Availability: 

  • Every Tuesday morning and every Friday afternoon (timeslot C) in quartile 2 of the academic year 2026-2027
  • One part of the day (morning or afternoon) in the week of October 19, 2026.

 

Hours in total: 60
